Shockwave Therapy

Not all shockwave is the same!

Effective Solutions for a Wide Range of Conditions

The Whiteley Physio Centre is a Specialist Extracorporeal ShockWave Therapy (ESWT) Centre offering shockwave treatment for Musculoskeletal conditions.

We have Radial & Focused Shockwave machines – very few companies offer Focussed (which is ideal for deeper tissue conditions, and if often more successful than Radial. – CLICK TO SEE THE VIDEO BELOW).

The technology we use is from the Market Leading Swiss company STORZ MEDICAL.  All our ESWT machines are manufactured in Switzerland to stringent European and British standards.  Many other clinics use lesser Chinese manufactured ESWT machines.

Radial Shockwave & Focused Shockwave
What is the difference?

Focused shockwaves are sound waves that are gathered (or focused) into deeper regions of the body, approximately 12cm. It is at this point that they reach their maximum energy. Focused shockwaves are used in the treatment of deep trigger points or areas, whereas radial shockwaves transmit outwards and do not reach as deep into the target area.

Radial shockwaves are performed on greater surface areas of application or larger regions of the body. Your therapist carrying out the procedure will decide which method is best for you, depending on your condition. Sometimes it is advisable to use a combination of both for maximum effect.

Here is a video with outlines these differences in more detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most clients tolerate shockwave well and you will feel some discomfort.

For musculoskeletal problems such as tendon pain we will recommend a combination of shockwave and rehabilitation as clinical trials have shown greater effectiveness than using shockwave alone.

After a shockwave treatment you do not have to rest and you can continue with your normal activities, you can attend alone as you can drive afterwards.

Clients can see an improvement sometimes after the first treatment and the real strength of shockwave therapy is in its medium to long term results.

This depends largely on which device we use, the length of time you have had the problem and the severity of your symptoms. We typically treat between 3-5 sessions on average.

Shockwave therapy is a safe treatment approved by NICE and used within the NHS. All our clinicians are trained at the highest standard in the use of Shockwave Therapy.

Our shockwave devices are engineered by Swiss based STORZ MEDICAL, world and market leader in shockwave therapy research, development and manufacturing. They are fully CE certified for safety and effectiveness. We have 2 devices and are able to provide radial and focussed shockwave therapy.
