Expert Care Tailored to Your Recovery

Whether you are dealing with a long-standing ache that won’t go away, recovering from a major surgery, or managing a sudden sports injury, specialist physiotherapy is the key to regaining your movement and reducing your pain. At The Whiteley Physiotherapy Centre, we don’t believe in “one size fits all” treatments.

Our Chartered Physiotherapists take the time to understand your unique symptoms, your medical history, and—most importantly—your personal goals. We combine expert hands-on therapy with evidence-based exercise programmes and clear, practical advice so you feel supported at every single stage of your recovery.

Our clinical team manages a diverse range of musculoskeletal issues for patients of all ages, including:

  • Spinal Health: Acute and chronic back pain, neck stiffness, whiplash, and sciatica.
  • Upper Limb: Shoulder impingement, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, and tennis/golfer’s elbow.
  • Lower Limb: Hip and knee osteoarthritis, ligament sprains, Achilles tendinopathy, and plantar fasciitis.
  • Specialist Care: Tension-type headaches, fibromyalgia, balance disorders, and complex post-surgical rehabilitation (such as joint replacements).

Our Clinical Approach

We begin by listening. Your first session involves a detailed clinical history and a movement screen to identify the “root cause” of your restriction. We don’t just treat the spot where it hurts; we look at the biomechanical chain to see why that area is being overloaded.

We use a variety of “hands-on” techniques, including joint mobilisations, soft tissue massage, and assisted stretching. These are designed to “desensitise” painful areas and restore normal joint gliding, creating a window of opportunity for you to move more freely.

Active recovery is the cornerstone of lasting change. We prescribe specific strengthening and mobility drills that you can perform easily at home. Our goal is to empower you with the tools to manage your own body, reducing the likelihood of your symptoms returning.

If your recovery requires more than standard physiotherapy, we can seamlessly integrate Acupuncture, Shockwave Therapy, Diagnostic Ultrasound, or Hydrotherapy—all under one roof at our Whiteley clinic.

Your First Appointment

At The Whiteley Physiotherapy Centre, we understand that your first visit can be a source of anxiety. We ensure the process is transparent and professional from the moment you walk through the door.

  • A Comprehensive 45-Minute Session: This allows ample time for a full history, physical examination, and the start of your treatment.
  • What to wear: Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (e.g., a vest top for shoulder issues or shorts for hip/knee problems) so we can accurately assess the affected area.
  • No Referral Needed: You do not need a GP referral to book a private, self-funded appointment with us.

You will leave your first session with a clear diagnosis (where possible), a bespoke treatment plan, and a realistic expectation of how many sessions you may need.

We believe in realistic expectations. Physiotherapy is a partnership between the therapist and the patient.

Clinical Note: While manual therapy can provide immediate symptomatic relief, structural changes in muscle strength and joint health take time and consistency.

Most straightforward mechanical injuries show significant improvement within four to six sessions. However, chronic conditions or post-surgical cases may require a longer-term management plan. We will always be honest with you about your prognosis and will refer you to a specialist consultant if we feel further diagnostic imaging or medical intervention is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. You can book a self-funded appointment directly without a referral. If you are using health insurance, your insurer may require a GP or consultant referral, so it is worth checking with them first.
This depends on your condition and how it responds to treatment. Some patients improve within two or three sessions, while more complex or long-standing problems may require a longer course. Your physiotherapist will give you an honest estimate after your initial assessment.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows your physiotherapist to access the affected area. Shorts and a t-shirt work well for most appointments.
Some techniques may cause mild discomfort, particularly if the area is already sensitive. Your physiotherapist will always explain what they are doing and check your comfort levels throughout. Treatment should never be excessively painful.
Yes. Physiotherapy is widely recommended for chronic pain management. Treatment focuses on improving movement, building strength, and helping you develop strategies to manage flare-ups. Our team has experience working with patients who have lived with pain for months or years.
